미국이민 변호사 잘 골라야 하는 이유
저는 서울 송파구에 있는 여자 변호사를 선임하여 K1(약혼자 비자)으로 미국에 입국하였고 같은 변호사를 통해 미국에서 CR6로 콤보카드와 임시영주권까지 맡기게 되었습니다.
I appointed a female lawyer in Songpa-gu, Seoul, and entered the U.S. on K1 (Promised Visa), and through the same lawyer, I even entrusted combo cards and temporary permanent residency rights to CR6 in the U.S.
비용: K1 진행 250만원, 임영권 진행 200만원
한국에서 K1을 준비 하면서도 변호사에 대한 불만은 좀 있었지만 그래도 이미 물은 엎질러졌고 좋게 좋게 마무리 하고 싶었어요.
While preparing for K1 in Korea, there were some complaints about the lawyer, but the pay was already over for her and I wanted to finish it well with her.
하.지.만.
이 변호사와 저는 악연이긴 했나봐요.
But, I guess this lawyer and I have an ill-fated relationship.
변호사 서류 G-28을 변호사가 제대로 작성하지 못해 콤보카드를 1년만에 받을 수 있었던 걸 2년만에 받게 되었습니다.
I was able to get a combo card in a year but I got it in 2 years because she couldn't fill out the lawyer's paper G-28.

2021년 12월 29일 - I-485(임시영주권), I-765와 I-131(콤보카드) 접수

2023년 10월 27일 콤보카드 우편으로 배송
타임라인을 보시면 중간에 RFE를 받았는데 처음 그 우편에 적힌 터무니 없는 추가요청 서류(변호사 미국주소를 달라는..)에 '뭐지?' 했지만 한국에 있는 변호사를 선임했기 때문에 그런가보다, 하고 넘어갔어요.
변호사가 미국 주소를 기입해서 RFE 제출하였고 이때까지는 문제가 없을 줄 알았습니다.
Look at my timeline, I got an RFE in the middle, and I wondered, "What is it?" to the ridiculous additional request document written in the mail(asking for a lawyer's U.S. address...) but I thought it must be because I appointed a lawyer in Korea. She filled out her address in U.S. and submitted G-28 to RFE again, and I thought there would be no problem until then.
하지만 알고보니, G-28 변호사 사무실 주소가 한국 주소여도 사실 상관없었어요.
But when I found out, In the address section of the G-28 lawyer's office, it doesn't matter if it was a Korean address, not a U.S. address.
문제는 변호사가 G-28 Part4 1.b. 옵션란에 체크를 했기 때문에 미국이민국 입장에서는 미국에 있는 현지 주소가 필요해서 RFE 서류를 요청한 것이었고 이민국 일처리가 늦다보니 10개월이란 시간이 흐른 후에야 콤보카드를 배송 보낼 수 있었습니다.
The problem is she checked G-28 Part4 1.b. the option section, the U.S. Immigration Department requested RFE documents because it needed a local address in the U.S., and as you guy know immigration work is so slow then the combo card was approved after 10 months.
G-28 Part4 1.b. 옵션란 내용은,
변호사가 모든 서류를 미국 내에 있는 대리인 주소로 보내라는 옵션란에 몽땅 체크를 하였기에 때문에 제 콤보카드는 변호사가 적어둔 주소로 배송완료 되었고 곧 나오게 될 영주권 또한 그 곳으로 배송 될 예정이었습니다.
Because she checked the option box to send all the documents to the agent address in the United States, my combo card was delivered to the address written down by the lawyer, and the upcoming green card was also scheduled to be delivered there.
대부분의 변호사는 "G-28 Part4 1.b." 옵션란에 신청인의 개인적인 사정이 있지 않는 이상 체크하지 않습니다.
이 문제를 해결하기 위해 변호사에게 적어둔 주소에 누가 살고 있는지는 모르겠지만 내 콤보카드를 배송해달라 라고 요청하였고 변호사는 5일간 메일을 일부러 확인을 안했어요.
To solve this problem, I emailed my lawyer to send my combo card to me, although I don't know who lives at the address she wrote down, and she didn't check her email for 5 days on purpose.
급한 마음에 한국에 있는 지인에게 변호사 사무실로 전화해보라고 하였고 변호사 개인메일과 공식 메일 두군데를 보내보며 밤에 잠도 안 자고 변호사에게 소식이 있는지 체크를 했어요.
In a hurry, I asked my acquaintance in Korea to call the lawyer's office, and I sent two personal and official mails to the lawyer, and I couldn't sleep at night and checked the lawyer for any news.
드디어 답장 온 변호사의 말은 제 혈압을 오르게 했습니다.
The words of the lawyer who finally replied made my blood pressure rise.
직접 그 주소로 가서 픽업을 하든, 이미 배송완료 한 우체국에게 따져보란 소리였어요.
She said, pick it up at the address myself, or The post office was delivered incorrectly so call them.
G-28에 적힌 주소와 저희집이랑은 12시간 거리였고 뜬금없이 우체국에 연락해보라니 어이없었습니다.
The address on the G-28 was 12 hours away from my house and I was dumbfounded to contact the post office out of the blue.
이 답장 이후 또다시 잠수.... ... .. .
After this reply, She started not checking her emails again.
제가 이렇게 이메일을 보내고 며칠동안 메일확인 안했던 변호사가 바로 메일 답장을 보냈어요.
회피한게 아닌데 말이 지나치다고요. 그래서 저는 답장으로,
After sending this email, the lawyer who hadn't checked the mail for a few days immediately replied to me. According to her she didn't avoid it, but my tone is rude. So I replied to her,
하지만 변호사는 이민국 탓으로 돌리는데...
But the lawyer blames it on immigration...

변호사는 끝까지 실수를 인정하지 않았고 미안함도 없었고 변명만 늘어놓고 해결을 위해 힘써주지 않았어요.
The lawyer didn't admit her mistake until the end, didn't feel sorry, just gave excuses and didn't try to resolve it.
미국 현지에 있는 미국이민 변호사를 통해 임영권을 신청 했다면 고작 $700정도의 변호사비로 보다 빠르게 콤보카드를 받을 수 있었는데, 여자 변호사이기도 하고 더 꼼꼼하게 잘 해주겠다 생각되어 상담하고 바로 모든 금액을 바보처럼 완납하였죠. (나는 호구였음)
If I applied for I-485 through a local lawyer in the United States, I could get a combo card faster and lawyer fee is only about $700, but I thought she is a female lawyer and she would do her job meticulously, so when I consulted her in her office, I immediately paid all the bills in full like silly. (I am loser)

When consulting with lawyers, ask with deliberation, meet several lawyers, and choose and appoint a lawyer.
